Edward
Nygma, AKA The Riddler, was envisioned as a rogue member of the Technocracy. Nygma had been a programmer for Iteration X
for a few years. He had been writing problem solving programs for H.I.T. Marks.
He showed so much promise that he was given a promotion to field work. The
infiltration of a Sons of Ether Chantry located somewhere around Gotham
University. Nygma is a former student
of Dr. Black's from Gotham U.
Nygma's Souvenir:
The first field test of Nygma's
problem solving programs had proven successful. A friendly field agent gives
Nygma a Garou Fetish with a Wyldling spirit bound in it: A Tarot deck that
Edward carries with him.
Edward
was rubbish at being sneaky, but the members of the department (including
Victor Von Fries, AKA Mr. Freeze) took him into their confidences. The Sons
were aware of Edward’s agenda, but decided to take a chance on him in spite of
that. They attempted to indoctrinate him into the True Science, as they call
their magick. Once they filled his mind with these wonders, they allowed him to
return to his superiors. They sent back a time-bomb.
A group
of Void Engineers take a Qui La Machinae
to a Sons of Ether Sanctum near Gotham University. They use a Pattern Disrupter
on a few of the Sons. Nygma, Tarot deck still in his pocket, is there. The Void
Engineer’s disrupt Nygma's pattern. They realize who he was and "Beam him back". In their attempt to
reconstitute his pattern, they combine his dynamic energy with that of the
Wyldling spirit bound into the cards. Edward’s mind is awash in questions.
Above
all, Riddler values intelligence, intellect. He finds the fact that the
Technocracy want to keep the Masses ignorant repellant. Riddler’s master plan
was to shatter the gauntlet that separates our reality from the infinite worlds of spirit and mind that exist
beyond the Horizon.
While
the other villains threatened the city, Riddler threatened reality itself.
…and he
had a plan…
